Three things worth knowing before you book anywhere
These are the three that come up most often in a first shoulder appointment.
A scan on its own does not settle it
Rotator cuff changes show up on the scans of plenty of people who have no shoulder symptoms at all. What the report says has to be read next to what your shoulder actually does under load, and that second half is the part of an assessment that takes the time.
After surgery the stages are set for you
A Latarjet, a cuff repair and a replacement each come with a protocol from your surgeon covering what range and what load, and when. We work to that document rather than around it, so bring a copy to the first appointment if you have one.
We put a number on it
Strength on both sides is measured with a dynamometer and a ForceFrame rather than estimated by hand. That means the decision about returning to overhead work or contact sport is made against a figure you can see, and compared against the other side.
What we do
Shoulder Physio
One appointment, one physiotherapist, and a shoulder that gets examined properly before anybody decides what to do about it.
Rotator Cuff
Cuff pain responds to load, applied in the right direction and the right amount. Getting that right takes measurement, not guesswork.
Instability & Dislocation
A shoulder that has come out once is more likely to come out again. What happens in the months afterwards changes that number.
Latarjet Rehab
A staged program worked to your surgeon's protocol, with the strength numbers to show where you actually are.
After Shoulder Surgery
Arthroscopy, stabilisation, cuff repair and replacement each have their own timeline. We work to the one your surgeon wrote.
Testing & Return to Sport
Deciding a shoulder is ready by how it feels is how shoulders get re-injured. We measure both sides and compare.
A shoulder surgeon, teaching our team
Dr Stuart Kirkham has been operating on shoulders for twenty five years. He ran a session for our physiotherapists on instability, SLAP tears and partial rotator cuff injuries, and this is how he opened it.
What treatment actually looks like
A gym floor, not a treatment room
Most workers compensation rehabilitation in Sydney is delivered on a plinth with resistance bands. That is enough to settle an injury and not enough to get somebody back to lifting on a full shift.
SportsFit Five Dock is a sports and rehabilitation clinic with squat racks, plates, sleds, a turf runway and force plates. Where your job involves real load, the last stage of rehabilitation has to involve real load too, and capacity is measured rather than estimated.
Every clinician's registration number is published
A practitioner has to be registered with SIRA, the NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority, to treat and invoice on a workers compensation or CTP claim. Most clinics do not publish the numbers. Ours are on the team page, read from each clinician's own record.
